Is this guy for real? This guy claims ‘Loyalty’ sounds like bubblegum pop, so people like the Monkees, Abba, Herman’s Hermits and The Archies… Seriously…?
Here, have the big document I’ve been collecting everytime someone calls my Pinkie Pie theme “techno”
It grows every day!
~Big ass post~
CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM Too techno. Techno doesn’t fit Pinkie. AJ had banjos and country music stuff, Twlight had? trumpets… All the instruments fit the character. Techno just isn’t fitting for Pinkie Pie. Still, the tune and upbeat rhythm was great, and overall, I really enjoyed it. Just be less techno next time. (This is all my opinion. Others may have other thoughts. This is just what I think.) empoleonking123 30 minutes ago
Enlighten me, what “brass, bells, and other intsruments” are you talking about? While I do agree those would’ve fit Pinkie, and I heard some synthesized drums? in there I’ll admit, but the rest is techono beeps, buttons and screeches. I know some techno music has other instruments in them, Like RainbowCrashes music, but they’re nowhere to be heard in this song as far as I can tell. i can agree there, but dude? (Or) Girl, there is gonna be some techno elements in there though TheGFTOW in reply to GreatMizuti (Show the comment) 5 hours
Techono in it self is fine. It’s my favorite genre, but this..just doesn’t suit Pinkie, and Rainbow Dash needs a rock theme. It would fit her better? then Techno would. GreatMizuti in reply to Zxerom (Show the comment) 11 hours ago

RC88 hyped me up for this game. WhiteTails techno lowered my expected joy of playing by half. Reply

It isnt they already spoiled it. RC88 did it and it sounds epic. Not this techno shit. Look it up on youtube and youll find a 30 sec spoiler AnonymousApr 19, 2012 01:15 PM
I don’t think all techno is crap. As far as techno goes, the track is pretty good. It’s just not fit for pinkie or a fighting game IMO

Techno-pop suits Pinkie better, unlike Rarity. Eeeh… Let’s see…some 8-bit sounds & drum beats(catchy), high pitched sounds, almost sounds cheerful if it wasn’t cold because of the techno. Still pretty energetic, but too techno, thus it’s less positive.

Ugh. I really wish you guys would of just stuck with one musician. I realize this means more work, but it would of been consistent, and not… This. After showing off AJ’s and Twi’s tracks, you really hook me in with RC88’s style, and then suddenly I’m thrown into this… Weird techno style that WT has.

I LOVE THIS TRACK! Though Rarity’s was great, this one was beyond amazing. It fits Pinkie’s personality perfectly, with the trance-like style, and the awesome upbeat techno. I just keep listening to it over and over again.

TL;DR & Translation:
RC88’s instrumental music is more atmospheric thus it gets you more pumped up, while the techno beats do not.

RC88 should have done the whole thing Rarity’s theme was dissapointing and Pinkie’s is way better, but still meh. Not a fan of the techno sound, I let it slide for Rarit’s theme, but imo Pinkies should have given off a Polka Carnival feel. this track just lacks anything Pinkie besides the high tempo which ends up sound like static when Whitetail started putting in the precussion.

RC did Rainbows theme, so I am assuming Whitetail did Fluttershy’s. So instead of getting a theme that should make you feel like your happily skipping through the forest, you will get more theno that will barely hit the mark of sounding like a Fluttershy theme. I would’nt have minded Whitetail as much if RC wouldn’t have set such a high standard. IMO you should just stick with one artist so the entire soundtrack fits together. Now it will be half techno, half instrumentals. Now I’m not going to not get the game. That would be stupid, the game will still be epic and release no problem. It’s just that Whitetail is dissapointing compared to RC as far as the music goes. Whitetail has improved, but has a ways to go and a diffrent style of making music. It is just a voluenteer game so I’m not going to be upset (just dissapointed) or delve into this anymore. I wish both the best of luck and hope to see more for this game. Good luck with making the game! Can’t wait until the release!

This song just screams Pinky Pie, regardless of whether any of the song sourcing is obvious. Super bouncy and full of energy, that’s Pinky. Can’t wait to see a Livestream with a fight in the Sugarcube Corner (and hopefully Cloudsdale and Fluttershy’s Home as well). I know that while I wasn’t as big a fan of the Rarity theme as I was of RC88’s works, it sounded MUCH better as BGM than it did as stand-alone and this sounds like it will be the same way.
To those complaining that it sounds to dance-pop, let me state something: IT’S BUCKING PINKY PIE. If ANY of the Mane Six got a techno-dance-party beat as her BGM it should be her.

Well, Whitetail’s doing Fluttershy if RC88 is doing Rainbow Dash…which is too bad, Whitetail’s techno would suit RD way better than Fluttershy (Not that it would fit either of them. But just saying). It will probably not sound as….well, as instrumental as I personally feel Fluttershy’s theme should be. Which is quite disappointing. I’m not saying Whitetail is bad, it’s just that Fluttershy does not fit the techno themes he produces.

Rainbow Dash would’ve done better with the techno Whitetail always seems to make. Fluttershy’s gonna tank if it’s techno…

I have to agree with you. Don’t get me wrong Whitetail has made some great songs, I very much enjoy Rarity’s and Pinkie’s theme. It’s just when I first heard of the project I heard RC88’s AJ theme which gets you so damn pumped. Twilight’s theme after that just blew me away and I thought he perfectly recreated some of daniels work into truly epic music. Each song had its own great feel to it and really seemed to fit this project perfectly. Raritys theme I was fine with, I’m sure its allot harder to find music for her character, however i find it very hard to find reference to art of the dress in the theme. Pinkies is a huge improvement and I can pick up giggle at the ghosties, but this kinda techno thing with both those themes falls short in comparison to what RC88 had already established. (I’m being an ass by saying this but techno/rave music doesn’t automatically make something epic or fast paced) Also some of the sound effects in Whitetails sound like static to me, to jumbled and less precise. Still amazing work and I’m sure as hell not going to complain. You guys CANT DO WRONG. Go ahead try, you just aren’t able to.

in all honesty? my favourite one so far. god I love speedy happy techno stuff. it fits pinkie perfectly and I can’t wait to see it ingame.
allthough I’ll admit it’s definitely unusually fast paced for a fighting game bgm. I’m very very eager to hear in action. Reply

May sound odd but my favorite song in Super Smash Brothers is by far the one from Earthbound. It starts off so humble and nice, perfect for the beginning of the game where Ness is in his little hometown. Then it slowly builds up to this sweet epic song. No other song in that series gets me as pumped to kick some ass. Hopefully we can see Whitetails real experience with fluttershy’s theme. If he decides to throw in another techno song that’s when I’ll start to lose hope for him. We don’t need a one trick pony for this show. Please prove us wrong.
Hm…I mean I like it, I love the circusy feel to it, and I like it a lot better than Rarity’s theme. But it’s still just so techno-ey. I pictured a lot more Dr. Suess whimsy to her song than dance-beat. I like the more instrumental themes of Twilight and Applejack better. I do hope that Fluttershy’s theme is done without all the techno. She needs really light delicate instruments, like strings or harp or flute, or even nature sounds like birdsong…not synthesizer.
It had some Pinkie-ish elements, but it was still very much a run-of-the-mill decent techno song. Nothing outstanding, nothing edgy or daring-do or out there. It felt very safe. I don’t want safe music. I can make safe music. I want out-there music that wows me with your creativity. And guess what? I’m not the only one.
And also, I don’t think of Pinkie as techno (Please for the love of all things Celestial don’t make Fluttershy techno!) she seems more of a discordant bubblegum POP! flavor. I feel like the mane influence should have been more from that genre than from techno.
I can deal with negative criticism myself fine....
….but I have never seen so many people be outright complete and utter asswipes to each other as they have been doing in the comments for my Pinkie Pie theme. If I end up having to close them know it’s because you guys can’t respect each other, not because you guys can’t respect me.
I’ve said for the longest time now that “Love and Tolerance” never really meant much in the brony community (it had it’s origins in trolling essentially) but thanks for proving yet again that decency isn’t something you can expect to hold to any large group of people.
If anyone wants the midi for it here you go, but a tad bit of a warning - you might notice that quite a bit of the song is missing (the sax break, the drums, the bass throughout half the song, etc.) - basically the reason being that this was composed entirely in DAW instead of composed outside like the Rarity theme had been, working with audio samples directly they do not end up with any MIDI information directly, but it’s a simple enough song so it shouldn’t be too hard to figure out.
As some people have already noticed, yes it was me revisiting an old track:
I hope I made the Foozogz shout out clear enough but really I cannot stress enough how much this song just wouldn’t have happened without him. Right around the time that Fooz was writing his original “Pinkie Pie Loves Suger” he was sharing it in a chat I was in at the time, commenting how it sounds cool and I was tired of writing angsty music he suggest me try some Happy Hardcore, in the end this was what resulted - kinda missed the mark a bit but I was happy with the overall sound. Come Fighting is Magic time I had a pretty good idea where I wanted Pinkie Pie’s sound to go so I decided to revamp my old song with a little new direction.
Looking around for some inspiration I had happened upon this PMV:
Having heard the original song but not the Basshunter remix (well in this case the speed up version, which seems to fit Pinkie quite well (I’ll forgive you guys THIS time “Nightcore” guys (p.s. time shifting is not remixing)) I was pretty intrigued with the sound and thought the sort of jumpiness mixed with the punchy kick worked quite well. I’ll say this now, Hardcore/Gabber’s far from my thing (and I think it probably shows quite a bit in the theme to someone who’s an intensive fan of the happy hardcore scene) but I definitely had to give it a go this time, it just seemed too perfect (especially at hyper tempo - I’ll admit it, part of me was smiling sadistically at the short double time section at the thought of the stepmania guys trying to chart that out haha).
Cyril’s sax bit was actually kinda last minute really, the plan all along was to be that I’d play it on tenor sax….. but E major transposed for a Bb instrument is scary (not to mention it’s juuuuust out of the comfort zone for tenor). I was going to ask him for some help mastering it and he was like “That the sax you’re going with?” and I explained how I planned on doing real sax and he just offered outright to record some Alto for it, got it the next day - thanks dude.
